PEOPLE in Wyre Forest are being urged to pop along to a Kidderminster church for a "flipping" good time to mark its 50th anniversary this month.

St Chad C of E Church in Somerleyton Avenue will host a traditional pancake race to coincide with Shrove Tuesday and as part of members' own celebrations next Tuesday.

There will be races for men and women at 11am and refreshments will be served in the church hall afterwards.

Anniversary events include guest preachers from the past, who will come back to the church for Sunday services over the coming weeks. Rev John Ilson, vicar from 1977 to 1985, is preaching on Sunday.

A musical extravaganza, featuring songs from the West End hit Les Miserables, will be held on April 8.

A huge family fun day is also on the agenda for Tuesday, May 30, followed by a thanksgiving service on Sunday, June 4.

Churchgoer, Mattie Underwood, who is helping to organise the events, is also urging people to pop along to the Carer's Day on Saturday, March 11.

The free event will offer people who care for others the chance to enjoy therapeutic treatments, pampering and exercise sessions, together with cookery classes.
