IT is entirely understandable that residents are up in arms over the proposed development of Drakelow Tunnels.

As a standalone project, the development may well be very exciting, bringing an "Eden Project" to Wyre Forest that doubles up as a social benefit for those who need help.

However, local residents didn't move to Wolverley and Cookley to be close to an "exciting" development - they moved there for the exact opposite reason! If the peace and tranquillity of the countryside is to be changed, it is perfectly acceptable that residents should object in the strongest possible terms.

Jericho Community Project owes a duty of respect to local residents. It is vital that Jericho come to Wyre Forest to present their plans - both the short term and the longer term - to all interested parties. And when local residents and the council's planning committee are fully cognisant of the proposals, a full and open public inquiry should be held.

But with what appears to be little hard fact and much conjecture in the air, it is no surprise that local feeling is so strong.
