AFTER coming out on top in the Year Six district football tournament, the girls of Simon de Montfort Middle School grabbed more glory at the county event.
Their double dose of success means the team will now represent Worcestershire in the regional championships in April when they will be looking to maintain their undefeated record.
The district event saw the girls defeat St Nicholas School 5-0 and 3-0 to set up a semi-final clash with St Barnabas that again produced a clean sheet and three more goals to their increasing tally.
Bredon Hill were out to stop them in the final but they were powerless to prevent the Four Pools players claiming the title albeit with the help of an own goal in a closely-fought final.
The county competition was played on a round-robin basis with teams playing three matches against fellow district winners from around Worcestershire.
A single goal proved enough to overcome Gorse Hill School in the opening game but, for the first time, SDM were finally unable to secure a win when Alvechurch held out to force a goalless draw although Lauren Colledge produced two excellent saves to ensure her side stayed unbeaten.
The girls then knew that victory in the final game against the champions of Redditch would be sufficient to win the tournament and two goals from Zoe Mabbutt gave Simon De Montfort a two-goal interval cushion.
Their opponents hit back in the second half and Colledge was finally beaten - a goal that led to a nerve-tingling final few minutes but the final whistle heralded cheers all round as the Evesham girls claimed another title.
