PAUL Bryan has been named as Droitwich CC's new captain for the 2006 season.

Bryan, a stalwart of their first team for the last few years, has replaced Steven Walsh as captain.

The new skipper at St Peter's Field will be hoping to carry on the momentum of Droitwich's end of season form in the Worcestershire League Division One.

Bryan's dedication to Droitwich was recognised at the club's end of season presentation evening when he was given the President's Trophy for his work behind the scenes.

Australian batsman Josh Staines was given the prize for the most runs, after he smashed 1,275 during the 2005 season.

Mike Rogers topped the club's bowling charts for the third year in a row and was handed the award for his 66 wickets, taken during the last season.

Rogers also won the first team Player of the Season and Clubman of the Season awards for 2005.

Gifted young guns Martyn Davies and Craig Hunt, both under-15s players, also won awards. Davies was given the award for most runs for the second team, while Hunt received a prize for being the team's top wicket-taker.

Davies was one of the night's biggest winners, receiving the performance of the year award for his century on his 15th birthday and the seconds' Most Valuable Player award.

Third team run machine Neil Williams was given an award for scoring the most for his side, while Alan Breakwell was the third's leading wicket taker.

Dave Pattison was given the most valuable player award for the third team.

Phil Thomas was named the under-17s' Bowler of the Season, while Ian Cottrill won the Fielder of the year.

The club's nets sessions start on Saturday, March 28 at Droitwich Spa High School. If interested in joining call Bryan on 01905 775711.
