Hereford 1, Bretforton II 2
BRETFORTON took the lead in the first couple of minutes when Kelsey Smith passed to Shirley Aubrey who produced a cool finish.
The match then turned into a sluggish battle with Hereford having more possession but fewer chances with Fiona Lovecy only tested on a couple occasions.
Jude Edghill marked well on the left as the visitors forced a few good runs up the pitch but there were no further goals before half-time.
The second half continued in a lethargic tone but the hosts renewed their efforts and were only thwarted by an overworked Bretforton defence.
Sweeper Fiona Jordan stood firm and Ceri Barber worked hard to get the ball out of the D while player of the match Lovecy was called on to make a series of saves.
However, the goalkeeper was finally beaten when, after making a save from a direct strike, the ball bobbled up and dribbled over the line.
The Bretforton girls now woke up but their opponents continued to fight their corner. Luck was with the village side, however.
And it was Smith again who acted as provider for Bernie Amphlett to see her shot blocked by the Hereford keeper.
Follow-up efforts followed before the ball got stuck in the goalkeeper's pads but a persistent Amphlett released it and pushed it into the goal.
The match ball was sponsored by Grahame Harford.
