THREE motorists were taken to hospital after a four-vehicle collision on the A38, less than a fortnight after a fatal motorcycle accident on the same stretch of road.

Last Thursday's accident occurred at around 8.20am when a white Volvo lorry turned on its side on the A38 at Stoke Heath, just yards from where Colin Hill, of Catshill, was killed in a collision on February 3.

Two men who were in the lorry were released by firefighters and taken to the Alexandra hospital in Redditch with non-life-threatening injuries, along with the driver of a white Mercedes Sprinter van.

The driver of a white Land Rover was treated at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bromsgrove.

A man in a white Volkswagen LT35, which was also involved in the accident, was unhurt.

An air ambulance had been called to the scene, but was not needed.

Diversions were put in place and the A38 remained closed until 5pm.

Hereford and Worcester Fire Service spokesman Alec Mackie said: "We received a call at 8.25am after a lorry carrying road surface chippings, travelling in the direction of Bromsgrove, overturned.

"A van travelling towards Droitwich collided with the cab of the lorry, and two other vehicles, both heading towards Droitwich, were involved. The lorry was stabilised with specialist equipment, and firefighters cut the roof off the cab and released those trapped inside."

A spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Ambulance Service added it was amazing that nobody suffered more serious injuries.
