NOT to be mistaken for an X-rated movie, Kinky Boots is a Full Monty-esque offering from director Julian Jarrold and the team behind Calendar Girls.
When his father dies, Charlie Price (Joel Edgerton) is the unwitting heir to Price Shoes, makers of sensible, conservative shoes.
But to keep the factory out of bankruptcy, he is forced to find a new niche market, which comes in the form of drag queen Lola (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and her kinky boots.
Lola soon has the factory in disarray, forcing everyone involved to challenge their own ideas of what it means to fit in and to accept difference.
Based on a true story, Kinky Boots offers laughs aplenty and some fine performances from Ejiofor and Edgerton keep a tale moving that might otherwise have juddered to a halt.
The stereotyping of non-Londoners as far less cosmopolitan as those from the Smoke is somewhat wearing at times but since the story hinges on this, it's just something we have to put up with.
Fine for an evening of light viewing, Kinky Boots is not groundbreaking but is pleasant, and amusing enough.
Just don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.
