I WAS appalled to see the headlines regarding Redditch Market (Advertiser, February 8).
For 16 years I traded very successfully in Royal Square and Church Green and it is patently obvious to anyone that if the market were moved back on to Church Green - for three or four days only- it would survive without council support.
Indeed, in the old days the market was the success story of Redditch, bringing in a healthy profit for the council.
The question is why is the sensible course of action, to relocate it back to Church Green, not taken up?
We were told it was because the county council would not let us - red tape insanity!
My theory is, a successful market means less trade for the big stores in the Kingfisher Centre and it is because of threats from them to withdraw from Redditch if the market is restored which keeps the market in its current sad position.
