SIR - With reference to the letter from Simon Clarke regarding tail-docking on dogs, could he please explain why labradors, golden retrievers, St Bernards, border collies (sheep dogs) and I am sure other working breeds, do not have their tails docked? Tails are there for a purpose and should not, under any circumstances, be removed. It is about time the Kennel Club took this on board. It is the most barbaric custom.

Worcester.
