FOR most town teachers, the forthcoming Easter holidays will be a time to kick back and enjoy some well-earned relaxation time - but not intrepid Meryl Hargreaves.
The Winyates Green woman will be donning her walking boots and trekking across the rugged terrain of the Inca Trail to raise cash for CLIC Sargent - a leading children's cancer charity.
If she raises the minimum sponsorship of £2,500 she will jet off to Peru with a team of dedicated fundraisers. They will follow the coveted trail to the world famous lost city of Machu Picchu, and through sacred valleys and picturesque towns and villages of the Andes.
"The trail follows steep paths, stone steps at an altitude of about 4,000 metres, not an easy walk," said the married mum with two grown-up children.
Mrs Hargeaves, a part time maths teacher at Aston Fields Middle School in Bromsgrove, is urging people to sponsor her.
"I am being helped by the pupils at the school where I work and they have already held a non-uniform day to raise funds for the challenge," she said.
CLIC Sargent challenge events manager Toni Fry added: "Every day children with cancer are fighting their own challenge, overcoming the stresses and strains of their treatment.
"We are extremely grateful to Meryl for choosing to take up this tough challenge for CLIC Sargent and wish them the very best of luck."
