THESE are successful times for the students at Droitwich High School who have been recognised for their sporting achievements.
And the school itself, now a specialist sports college, is receiving prizes for its work in developing technology and international links.
At the Wychavon Sports Personality of the Year Awards, Droitwich students were acclaimed.
Dawn Williams, aged 15, who has been an outstanding performer and leader in dance throughout the year, was presented with the Young Sports Personality of the Year Award.
Also in the limelight was 15-year-old Charlotte Birch.
The young Worcestershire athlete has been competing at a high level in athletics for a number of years and received due reward and recognition for her efforts by receiving the Young Disabled Athlete of the Year Award.
Meanwhile, as a part of its community work, Droitwich High School has developed links across the globe to support the aspirations of students and teachers.
In recognition of this excellent work the British Council rewarded the school with an Intermediate Award in International Links.
Links with Bad Ems in Germany have been extended since the school became a specialist sports college.
Now links also exist in India, the United States and in New Zealand.
Recent visits by pupils have given great opportunity and advantage to students and staff in raising awareness of global issues.
These opportunities will be extended this year with a trip to the Himalayas with their partner school in New Delhi and the establishment of an internet athletics competition with partner schools around the world. Specialist sports status means staff from Droitwich High School were invited to the Sport College Conference, with special guest double Olympic winner, Dame Kelly Holmes.
Droitwich was one of seven schools to receive a prize at the conference. The school won the ICT award.
This recognises the planning, implementation and development of ICT across the school.
