A CITY punk band are hoping they will be top of the league after penning a new football World Cup anthem.
Blind Granny's Taxi Nightmare - who got their name from a Worcester News headline - want Hi-Ho Come On England to relegate other top football tunes like Baddiel and Skinner's Three Lions.
The band have already recorded two versions of the song - a 'radio' version and a punk version - which they believe could be vital in boosting the ball skills of Beckham and his team mates.
And it is so catchy, a top record label in London has already shown interest.
Now they hope their 'polite' offering - which is sung to the tune of Jeff Beck's hit Hi-Ho Silver Lining - will get air play on local and national radio stations before the 2006 FIFA World Cup kicks off in Germany in June.
Lead singer Andy Probyn, who runs The Bull Inn in Fernhill Heath, said the idea was dreamed up by him and his four bandmates around six months ago.
"We'd been on about writing a song for the World Cup since we formed in 2002," the 40-year-old said.
"The idea for the tune came first - a local DJ told me that whenever he played Hi-Ho Silver Lining by Jeff Beck, he could guarantee a full dance floor, so it seemed like the perfect choice for the tune to base the song on.
"I sent it off to a fiend of mine who works for BRMB and he liked it so much he sent it to a record label - and now they have phoned to say they are interested.
"We really hope it's a success, but at the end of the day, we don't want any money, we just want to hear ourselves on the radio and get on TV," Mr Probyn added.
Here are the lyrics that you could be singing to cheer England on this summer:
We're gonna win the world cup baby
Just like before
Sven's leading us to Germany
Who could ask for more
Neville, Cambell, Lampard, Terry,
Cole and Ferdinand
Everybody's cheering England
To the promised land
(chorus)
And it's hi-ho come on England!
And away we go now baby
We'll see that World Cup shining
And we'll make a fuss
Cos it's obvious
In red or white we don't care baby
England are the team
Victory's what we want right now
To fulfil the dream
The boys are gonna do it baby
Just wait and see
So open up your cans of lager
While you're watching TV
(to chorus)
'66 was our year baby
This is the time
The crowd are singing hope and glory
The boys are in their prime
Gerrard's leading from the centre
And Beckham's on the wing
He crosses over to Rooney
And Owen scores and we win
(to chorus)
