MALVERN Town moved up into second place in the Harvey World Travel Alliance table following this midweek victory over Wellington.

WESTFIELDS 2, MALVERN TOWN 4

Town made two changes from Saturday's successful FA Cup side, Duncan Preedy and Marc Burrows coming in for Chalmers and Whittington.

This was a good performance from Malvern whose opponents Westfields had knocked out Southern League Western Division side Sutton Coldfield Town 3-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Phil Preedy and Mark Shepherd combined to release Mark Owen whose shot was tipped round the post by Pugh. On 17 minutes Duncan Preedy cut inside before crossing for Shepherd to score with a diving header.

Westfields equalised on 25 minutes when Chris King volleyed home from 20 yards. Malvern hit straight back when Craig Heaney rose and headed home Duncan Preedy's corner.

In the 30th minute Owen headed back to Shepherd who volleyed over and in the 35th minute, Rivets fired over the Malvern bar from close in.

Malvern started the second half strongly and good work by Darren Bullock and Richard Tomkins saw Tomkins fire just over.

In the 62nd minute, Malvern deservedly increased their lead when the tireless Rik Halion released Duncan Preedy who outstripped the Westfield's defence before giving keeper Pugh no chance with a rasping shot.

Malvern relaxed and within two minutes Westfields reduced the lead when Mark Davis rose unchallenged to meet Hibbard's cross.

More good interplay between Bullock and Owen saw Shepherd hit the side netting but Malvern were not to be denied and kept the best goal for the last.

The impressive Tomkins started the move, he found Owen whose return pass saw Tomkins cut in and beat two defenders before unleashing a superb right-foot shot from 18 yards into the top corner of the net to put the icing on a good all round team performance.
