MEMBERS of Malvern Joggers were out in good numbers at the ROC Fencing multi-terrain eight-mile race in the Wyre Forest on Sunday.
After a long dry spell, the rising temperatures and overnight rain turned large sections of the course into a mud bath, making choice of footwear crucial for good traction.
First man home was Dave Mansbridge of Telford AC who clocked exactly 48 minutes. Ian Mansell (Dudley and Stourbridge AC) was a close second, 11 seconds adrift of Mansbridge.
West Malvern's Matt Scriven (Mercia Fell Runners) found some good form to finish in 52.07 for 6th place.
First of the 10 Joggers home was Jon Newey. Deciding for a steady run after a heavy cold, Newey scraped under 55 minutes by two seconds to finish in 15th place.
Not far behind was Andy Milton in 30th place with a time of 57.46. Mark Cusack was 17 seconds over the hour mark in 48th place.
Best of the Jogger's two women in the race was Sam Hammond who finished in 73.00 minutes. She was followed 1.58 later by Julie Caseley, slowed down no doubt by a heavy London Marathon training schedule.
Other Jogger's times: Jerry Greer 67.00 116th, Chris Barker 69.35 144th, Peter Tooke 72.37 189th, Peter Cowling 76.40 237th.
Malvern Joggers meet every Wednesday evening at Dyson Perrins School, 7pm. All abilities catered for.
