MALVERN RFC put in a good display at Midlands Two West leaders Broadstreet on Saturday and even had the Coventry-based side rocking at half-time when they held a 9-0 lead.
Although the home side hit back to win the match 29-12, director of rugby David Robins was heartened, even in defeat.
"To take a much-changed side to the league leaders and frighten them the way we did for 50 minutes speaks volumes for the attitude and spirit at Spring Lane.
"Our disastrous start to the season is now a distant memory and the lads are totally focussing on winning sufficient games to cement our place in this league. There were some great performances, clouded only by two more injuries. We await news on Dave Wilkinson and Matt Richardson, who came off with a back injury, to be replaced by Joe Ling, making his debut.
"With Shaun Lancett sidelined and the impending loss of Ping Han, we don't need to be short of props at this crucial stage.
"On the plus side, we go into the home game against third-placed Newport in good heart. They have gone off the boil recently and we look to cause an upset on the day."
Tomorrow's (Saturday) game is preceded by a vice-president's lunch.
