THE Villagers entertained FC Goodrest at Powick in the Worcester League division three.
VILLAGERS 2, FC GOODREST 1
The Villagers started off much the better side creating several opportunities with good balls over the top to strikers Roly Green and Neil Morgan, who were both working tirelessly.
With the Villagers struggling to find the final ball though, FC Goodrest took the initiative but found goalkeeper Mark Tilley again in outstanding form.
The Villagers looked to Adam Dover and new signing Rob Rich to come on and make an impact and with this, the Villagers began to find their form again. Phil Wild went on a trademark jinking run, finishing with consummate ease past the visiting keeper.
FC Goodrest started to try and use the wings on most of their attacks but found both Ronny Oseman and Chris Broad in good form. Ronny Oseman in particular, stopping several good moves on his own in good crossing positions for the opposition.
Building on this confident defending, the villagers now settled into their game but were caught on the counter-attack and conceded a sloppy corner. From the kick, the ball was flicked-on and Goodrest netted from close range.
The goal only kick-started the Villagers and from a miscued goal-kick, Nathan Wanklin found John Tilley in space, Tilley's pass was weighted to perfection and Phil Wild promptly beat two defenders before slotting past the keeper for his second of the match.
FC Goodrest continued to press for the equaliser but found Paul Knivett, Rob Rich, Jamie Plant and Chris Broad all in fine form.
Villagers went close in the final minutes through Roly Green, who bent his shot round the on-rushing keeper and, unfortunately, the goal.
Men-of-the-match were Paul Knivett and Phil Wild.
