SIR - We all have a cause to feel confused by the BBC. One minute it's investing billions in a second attempt to set up an Arabic Television Station (why?) and venerating everything Muslim - and the next moment, it's chuntering on about "free speech" and showing cartoons clearly intended to offend many Muslim people.
Once you start on the slippery slope of favouring one group over another its difficult to return to the even-handedness that used to make the BBC so trusted and popular in the increasingly distant past.
Would the BBC dare mock Jewish people, feminists, one-parent families, black people, Hindus or asylum seekers? Well no - anymore than it would challenge the "let's give British Citizenship to everyone in Eastern Europe and Turkey" campaign which it actively promotes at every opportunity. The truth is that the BBC's confused liberals now have a stranglehold over British society through their control of our political life.
No politician dare upset the BBC because it would mean the end of their career. That's one reason why our political choice and democracy are so limited and there is such a desperate campaign going on to make politics 'relevant' by turning it into a soap opera - when all we want is to speak our minds.I don't want a few ninnies in London holding our political life to ransom any longer. Nor do I want to see Christ or Mohammed or Holocaust victims mocked just to amuse a few dopey decadent buffoons whose real contributions to our society has been to silence and ridicule the opinions of most British people.
JIM EVANS,
Worcester.
