SIR - I was intrigued by a recent article in Worcester News. Stanley Parr of Pershore has launched a new political party! This must surely be the same individual who has, from time to time, held forth in the correspondence page of the Worcester News.

I would not quarrel with a referendum on the death penalty as proposed by Mr Parr and his new party. However, a reduction in tobacco taxation would inevitably be to the detriment of the nation's health, thereby causing a further drain on the NHS. To restrict Third World medical staff recruitment would do further damage to the Health Service and, furthermore, would be racially discriminatory.

To suggest that the police force be elected is ludicrous. Nevertheless, I am most interested in Mr Parr's party proposal to fly the flag of St George - not the union Jack - from every school. The name of this new party is The England Parliamentary Party. Of course, England is not a sovereign state. It is one of four parts of a sovereign state.

Does the name of Mr Parrs' new party and the proposal to fly from schools, a flag other than the Union Flag, indicate a desire to dismember our existing sovereign state?

Worcester.
