STOURPORT'S Ultimate Frisbee team will be throwing everything into qualifying for the National Indoor Finals this weekend.

The Psychedelic Rhinos have been in fine form and need to finish in the top six at the qualifiers in Weston Super Mare.

They are also in training for an international beach tournament in Italy in September after going from strength to strength in recent months.

A sign of their progress was the second place finish in the B division of the Midland Winter League.

The Rhinos had a tough introduction to the league, competing against high quality opposition including members of the Great Britain junior squad.

But despite a couple of early hammerings, their decision to use man-marking tactics rather than zonal defence and complicated offence paid off.

They won three of their five remaining games, finishing runners-up in the B division with all of the players showing a dramatic improvement.

Captain John Watson said: "Although we took a battering in the first two rounds it made us realise that the rest of the league was not going to be easy.

"We decided to raise our game and it got us great results."

Midland Winter League standings: B Division - 1 Birmingham 1, 2 Psychedelic Rhinos, 3 Flyght Club 2, 4 Red Demons, 5 Jesters, 6 Airwolf, 7 Haze.
