OPERATION Covert struck a chord with music lovers who helped to raise £650 at a concert.

Now organiser, Freya Randle, is hoping to lift the total past the £700 mark by selling CD recordings of the evening.

The Kidderminster music teacher, of Findon Street, put on the event at the New Meeting House in Church Street.

It featured more than 20 of her students and an audience of around 100 people turned up to hear the wide-ranging programme including songs from stage and screen.

The former member of Blakedown Guides said she chose to raise money to help rebuild the Rhydd Covert activity centre, torched by vandals, because she felt it was an important facility for children.

She said she was pleased with the amount raised and added: "It went really well. Everyone did well and had fun. It is good that people have come together to help out in this way."

The 24-year-old, who started giving lessons in singing, violin and piano three years ago, said she hoped sales of the CD would increase the total amount in the coming weeks.

The CD is available from Mrs Randle on 01562 744139.
