AN angry pub landlord in Stourport is calling for answers after claiming he was not notified about roadworks that he fears could seriously harm his business.
John Kain, licensee of The Hollybush in Mitton Street, said he first found out about the repair works on Monday.
The road and footpath have been closed between Severn Road, where traffic is being diverted through to the town centre, and Lion Hill.
Mr Kain said he feared customers would stay away for the duration of the works because they might think the pub was closed.
He explained. "I have heard nothing from the council or the companies involved with the works. I turned up on Monday and could not believe my eyes.
"I am a tenant and it is no exaggeration to say I could go bust because of this. I have not had a chance to sort anything out with the staff and deliveries cannot get up to us. I have been completely cut off."
The maintenance, which is expected to take three weeks to complete, is part of an on-going series of water main repair works in Stourport, being carried out on behalf of Severn Trent Water.
A spokesman for the water company was unable to confirm if a letter had been sent to the pub but stressed it had done "everything it could" to alert people to disruption.
He added: "We believed we had sent information to all businesses and occupiers affected by these works and notices have been placed in the local press. We are surprised to hear the gentleman had no idea about them. If it was the case he received no notification then we do send our apologies."
Andy Broom, acting manager for Worcestershire Highways Partnership in Wyre Forest, said: "If it is causing major disruption, it might be possible to get a sign up there to let people know the pub is open as usual."
