REDDITCH were down to meet Soho Villa on the latter's ground on Saturday but, owing to the wretched weather, it was found impossible to play the match.
Late on Saturday morning, Mr Jameson, the Redditch secretary, received a postcard from Soho saying the field was under water but as it was then too late to advise the local players of the postponement of the game, and also the fact that the referee was the sole judge as to whether a game should be played or not, there was no alternative for the Redditch men but to make the journey.
Unfortunately a heavy rainstorm fell at about 2.30pm and this considerably affected the chances of the match being played.
On arriving at Soho, the ground was found to be in a waterlogged state and, as there was hardly a blade of grass on the playing space, the pitch was in a treacherous condition.
After inspecting it, the referee (Mr Brookes) decided that the ground was not fit to play on and consequently the game was abandoned, much to the disappointment of a great number of supporters who had made the journey from Redditch.
