ALVECHURCH manager Shaun Cunnington was left cursing this week after watching his side throw away the lead in their 3-2 defeat at title-chasing Chasetown.
The Church boss said his side outclassed the FA Cup heroes only to shoot themselves in the foot.
"We were 2-0 up with 20 minutes to go," Cunnington said. "For 70-75 minutes we made them look very ordinary.
"Their first goal was offside and then our keeper Karl Lewis made two mistakes which cost us the game.
"The lads had worked so hard to get themselves into a good position and scored two fantastic goals from well-worked moves. It's very disappointing."
That set-back came on the heels of a 1-0 defeat at home to Loughborough Dynamo last week but Church at least have the chance of avenging the Chasetown result when the Scholars head to Lye Meadow on Tuesday (ko 7.45pm).
First up is Saturday's Polymac Services League Cup trip to Barwell (ko 3pm) but Cunnington insists his side's last cup competition will not distract him from the objective of Midland Alliance points.
"It would be nice to finish with some silverware," he added. "But we need to start picking up points in the league because we don't want to be dragged into the bottom three."
Right-sided utility player Callum Gittings is cup-tied for the trip to Leicestershire and Cunnington said experienced defender Simon Redhead is about a week away from a return to fitness.
