A CONTROVERSIAL planning application for a residential care home is to go before planners this week.
There have been 41 letters objecting to Voyage Limited's plans to convert
2 Croft Road, Evesham, into a seven-bedroom care home for young adults with learning disabilities.
Objectors fear the development would lead to more cars being parked in the street, which some fear could create a road safety danger and make it difficult for cars to manoeuvre.
Concerns have also been raised about the development being out of character with the existing area.
The Vale of Evesham Civic Society has also voiced concerns that the demolition of the existing garage and building of a new two-storey extension would be at the expense of the garden.
It has also voiced concerns about traffic problems.
The Highways Partnership Unit has raised no objections to the plans, being discussed at Wychavon District Council's development control committee meeting tomorrow.
Its report said: "With a clear road, visibility from both the existing and proposed access points is considered to be acceptable.
"The level of car parking provision shown is also deemed to be appropriate."
If approved, the development would help adults between the age of 18 and
65 live within the community under the supervision
of staff.
Voyage encourages staff to use public transport and bikes to reduce the number of cars at its sites.
Planning officers have recommended refusal on the grounds that the proposed new access point at the west of the site and parking area would threaten the well-being of a mature tree, which is thought to be a prominent feature of the street scene.
