I FULLY endorse the 'Pride In Your Patch' campaign but in my locality, in the Barnsley Hall Road area, I can see little evidence of the council's support.
Two days ago I collected a carrier bag full of broken crockery amongst other items. I walk my dog daily in this area and could collect a carrier bag fully of rubbish each day - but what can I do with it when the council refuse collection will not take the rubbish away if my grey bin is full? There is not one litter bin in sight.
Dog owners receive nothing but bad press and the threat of steep fines. In this area we are the ones who most frequently clear up other people's mess - so where is the deterrent for those who leave their beer cans, take away containers etc as well as general household rubbish strewn in our fields and lanes?
I've tried to contact Bromsgrove District Council today to speak to someone about how this rubbish could be collected. No-one, on either the main reception at the Council House or on the customer service number, knew who to put me through to and so I was told that I would be called back - and of course I haven't been!
This is an area that is designated for re-development of the football pitches and for a new play area.
Whilst I fully support the appropriate development of recreational facilities I am concerned that an area that is earmarked for more intense use will just experience more abuse rather than profitable use. I would be interested to know what the council's intentions are to address this.
