I HAVE read the recent letters and articles in your pages with interest. I agree that the quantities of rubbish and litter on our streets is disgraceful and I support any campaign to prevent what is, after all, a crime.

On page three of last week's issue, is a picture of, amongst others, Councillor Margaret Sherrey, who is responsible for waste management. I can tell the councillor that the culprits for much of the rubbish on our streets are the very people who are supposed to take it away for proper disposal, our dustbin men.

I do not expect her to take my word for this. All she has to do is follow the truck emptying the red and black boxes. Any contents, plastic bottles, plastic cups and cartons and paper which falls to the ground is just left there.

On windy days, the rubbish is spread all over the place as are the lids of the boxes which are never replaced.

Whilst on the subject of the boxes, why two boxes and one lid? Please don't suggest a third wheelie bin. The invasion of the wheelie bins so far is already an eyesore.

All the residential areas of Stoke Heath, the whole length of Rock Hill and other areas of Bromsgrove are left with a trail of rubbish every 14 days by the council's employees.

I am not denying that far too many residents are guilty of contributing to the problem and should be prosecuted vigorously but the council should at least put it's own house in order.

Perhaps Cllr Sherrey would like to bring her black bag and extend litter picking to Stoke Heath on Friday to see the problem for herself and leave our neighbourhood litter free.
