I WAS saddened but not surprised to read the council is to cut the current subsidy to Redditch Market.
It seems this is yet another nail in the coffin of our market, which has struggled so much in recent years, hidden as it is now in a dreary corner.
I think it would be true to say the market, like Forge Mill Museum, is an important asset to the town and part of our heritage (after all, what is a town centre without a market?).
The council should be working to support the market and its future.
If the market is forced to close as a result of the cut of its subsidy, I doubt it will be possible to resurrect it.
I urge the people of Redditch to support the market while it is still here because if the attitude of the council is anything to go by, the future looks very uncertain.
