WORCESTER Rugby Club Under 16s eased into the semi-finals of the North Midlands Knockout Cup with a crushing 35-0 victory over visitors Woodrush.

Within minutes of the start Worcester showed their intent when the forwards released quick ball from a five-metre scrum on the left of the pitch and superb handling by all the backs allowed right wing Jamie Holloway in for try number one.

Worcester continued to dominate but although camped in their own half, Woodrush soaked up the pressure and defended well.

The home side had an 8-0 lead at half-time thanks to a penalty kick from fly half Tom Gwynne.

The second-half continued as the first and Woodrush had no answer either to the power of the Worcester forwards or the pace of the backs.

Their defence began to crumble and penalties were given away, leading to an 11-0 margin.

Woodrush forwards could not cope with the constant stealing of the ball in the line-out by Luke Irwin and Jack Brain.

They were aided by excellent lifting from Declan Whittingslow, Bill Bennett, Will Pawsey and Jamie Mills. The forward dominance in the rucks and mauls, led by hooker Sam Fitch, gave the backs the room to show their pace and speed of passing.

Try number two came from a quick penalty and centre Vaughn Thomas touched down in the corner.

The next try was started by a mesmerising run from full-back Luke ooke and finished by Holloway on the wing.

Gwynne got in on the act, scoring under the posts and converting before Holloway sealed an excellent day with his hat-trick try. Gwynne converted the kick of the day from the touchline.
