Sunday's morning service at St Peter's Church celebrated Candlemas, when The Rev. Douglas Walker blessed the candles to be used during the year. This Sunday, a family service will be led by Jim Bullett at 11am.
On Tuesday, February 14, Valentine's Day, a walk will take place from the Wheatsheaf, Whitbourne, organised by Powick Ramblers. The four-mile walk should include snowdrops in flower and will be led by Joy and Phil Bunyan, (01886) 832774.
On Sunday, the regular book fair will be held at Powick Parish Hall from 10am-4pm. Book bargains and refreshments for sale.
All hall users are invited to the annual general meeting of the trustees and management committee of Powick Parish Hall on Thursday, February 23 at 7.30pm at the community room.
On Monday, 12 members of Powick Ramblers, plus two dogs, walked six miles from Callow End over the Madresfield Estate and back to Old Hills.
The footpath followed the Madresfield brook, past the North and South Lodges and Madresfield Court, past the dovecot and Home Farm. A variety of different designs of weather vanes were noticed on the farm buildings and houses, which bore the B emblem of Beauchamp. Part of the walk followed the Three Choirs Way, sporting the rhyme "Blessed is the eye, between the Severn and the Wye" on the way-marker.
The path led on to Clevelode, past the Riverside caravan park, close to the River Severn and returned on farmland to the Old Hills car park. The walk took three hours and David Allen was thanked for leading so ably.
