A MALVERN man was killed six weeks before the birth of his first grandson.
David Wagstaff, aged 66, of Geraldine Close, died after coming off his Yamaha scooter on the A449 near Powick.
His daughter Claire, aged 26, said: "He was known and loved by a lot of people as he made them laugh. I'm expecting my first child soon, his first grandchild, and it's awful to think he will never see him. I've been told it's a boy."
Mr Wagstaff was born in Malvern and went to Ledbury Grammar School, later becoming a self-employed builder. He played for local cricket and football teams and held a county javelin record as a youth.
His ex-wife Magda said: "A lot of people are going to miss him. He had a lot of friends."
Mr Wagstaff leaves four children, Clare and her twin sister Kristina, Kirsty, 30, and Howard, 32.
The accident happened at about 5.30pm on Tuesday. Mr Wagstaff's injuries were not considered life-threatening at first but his condition deteriorated and he died in hospital later that evening.
