A Malvern couple are celebrating 70 years of marriage.
Percy and Ella Pugh are both in their 90s and still sing together in the church choir.
They were married at Holt Heath Church on February 10, 1936. He comes originally from Cleobury Mortimer, in Shropshire, and she from Stanford Bridge, in Worcesershire.
Describing how they met, Mrs Pugh said: "It was on the bus going to Worcester. I was going to shorthand lessons there and he was driving the bus."
Mr Pugh, 96, was behind the wheel for much of his working life, driving mail vans and coaches. He even found himself driving RAF transport vehicles during the Second World War, when he was based at RAF Hartlebury.
Later on, he became an engineer with the Quality Cleaners chain, which again took him far and wide.
Mrs Pugh, 94, put her office skills to good use during the war, as superintendent of typists at the same RAF base as her husband. Subsequent employment took her to such notable county firms as Kays, Guardian Royal Exchange and Royal Worcester Porcelain.
The couple have a daughter, Sally Rees, and a grandson, Eric, a postgraduate scientist at Cambridge University.
They have been in Malvern for 25 years, having previously lived in Ombersley for 40 years.
Both remain members of the choir at Ombersley Church, where their daughter drives them every week. Mr Pugh also stays active tending the garden.
The couple plan to celebrate their platinum anniversary in Ombersley, with friends from the village.
