VISITING lorry drivers are causing a stink by relieving themselves while parking overnight close to houses.
Long-distance truckers have taken to sleeping in their vehicles in Wainwright Road on the Warndon and Shire business parks because they are just minutes away from the motorway junction.
But unlike designated lorry parks, there are no toilet facilities for drivers on the roads around Warndon.
The matter was raised at a meeting of Warndon Parish Council where member Marc Bayliss described the problem.
He said: I've had reports of lorry drivers urinating in the bushes down there and that's obviously completely beyond the pale.
The issue was highlighted by the county councillor who represents Gorse Hills and Warndon, John Buckley,
"He said: "All roads on that side are now being used as an overnight stop by lorry drivers.
"It would be useful if we could make some representations to get something done because it's becoming an increasing nuisance."
Coun Buckley said the lack of toilets meant the area was impractical for overnight stops.
They've got everything they need down there - a local shop, a Chinese takeaway, a chip shop. Only one amenity is missing, I'll leave it to your imagination to guess what is going on up there."
Warndon Parish Council said it hoped plans to put in yellow lines would deter truckers from parking on the spot in future.
Members have become increasingly concerned over the last 12 months that word was spreading among long-distance lorry drivers across the country that Warndon was a convenient place to stop, an was an alternative to going to a designated park.
They say this has led to parking hazards, noise from the lorry refrigerators and masses of litter.
But following complaints, the Highways Partnership agreed to various parking and waiting restrictions to ease problems around the industrial estates.
