KIDDERMINSTER Chess Club B team began this year's Worcestershire League Knockout Tournament with a 3-2 win at Redditch.
The contest was the brainchild of Longbridge's Laurence Wheatley, and in its inaugural season, 2004-5, Kidderminster A were runners-up.
This year's competition saw some odd results. Terry Pountney should have lost to Mike Daniels who offered a draw when two pawns up.
Clive Billinge carelessly threw away his game against David Richardson from a superior position.
Mark Riley ground down Giles Stanton for a two-pawn advantage, and Paul Thomas punished a slip by Brian Drummond in middle-game.
Bill Pugh drew an evenly-contested game with Richard Turner.
