POLICE are clamping down on nuisance commuters who park in a narrow Comberton street to avoid paying the £2.50 parking charge at the town railway station.
Residents have complained for months about parking problems in Farfield and to try and combat the problem the police are now hitting offending motorists with £30 fines.
The access-only road is for residents but recently motorists, using trains to travel to work in places including Worcester and Birmingham, have started to park along both sides of the street, all day, to avoid paying station parking charges.
Farfield resident, Simon Redmond, said: "The problem has become so bad that residents are now unable to park outside their own houses.
"They park alongside either side of the road and we're also concerned that this will block the way for emergency vehicles.
"Taxi drivers are among the worst offenders and they often use the road as a shortcut."
PC Bob Furnell said offending motorists were given advance notice that fines would be given out before Christmas.
Since then, 12 drivers have been slapped with fixed penalty notices.
He added: "We will continue targeting this area as long as there is a problem there."
