THE health of Tenbury Wells residents is set to receive a significant boost should an action plan to improve well-being across the Teme Valley get the go-ahead.
The town could also play a key role in enhancing health across the Malvern Hills District if the Vision 21 Health, Well Being and Physical Activity Plan receives the green light at the end of the month.
Amanda Smith, cultural services manager, said that Tenbury would be given significant support because of concerns about health.
"As a designated area of rural deprivation, Tenbury Wells is one of our priorities.
"It has signs of health inequalities and the plan will help us address this," she said.
"We are looking at a range of measures to give people the opportunity to lead a healthier lifestyle."
The plan has already been approved by Malvern Hills Councillors and includes:
Continuing support to the Tenbury-based "Walking the way to health" programme.
Expanding the weekend walking festival to benefit the health of residents across the Malvern Hills District.
Holding a series of half-day health showcase events in Tenbury.
Improving the concessionary price scheme at Tenbury Swimming Pool to give more people the opportunity to attend.
Supporting the development of community sports facilities at Tenbury High School.
Extending a GP physio exercise referral scheme to Tenbury.
Last month, Malvern Hills District Council approved the scheme when its executive committee met and it is expected to receive authorisation when the Vision 21 sub-group meets in late February.
