JUST as the ripples of discontent seemed to be smoothing out, a campaign group for the Droitwich Lido has unexpectedly criticised the way the pool's redevelopment is taking place.
Save A Lido Today (SALT) has raised concerns about the way the proposals were put through, and about the consultation exercise, cliaming that the results of a parish poll were totally disregarded.
A spokesman for the group said: "We have said little that may be contentious over the last few months as we did not wish to jeopardise the prog-ress of the plans.
"We were worried we would be left with nothing on the lido site but the wet play area and some flower beds. This time last year it looked as though that might be all we would get.
"We feel that Wychavon District Council has completely ignored the request of SALT, in conjunction with others, to consider the alternative 'split pool' option.
"This was both short-sighted and discourteous to the people of Droitwich Spa.
"We think that it is essential for the long-term future of the amenity that it appeals to as wide a market as possible.
"Unfortunately, Wychavon appears to have a narrow-minded view that the only customers that they want to visit the re-opened Lido are families, but because of the nature of the plans this really means families with young children."
Tim Deakin, development manager for Wychavon District Council, said: "We feel SALT has been very negative in what is meant to be an exciting time for the town and it's a pity they didn't voice these opinions at all stages of the process.
"They certainly attended all the meetings but didn't use the public question times to raise these concerns. In fact they gave support to the proposals. We had hoped for a better reaction to what is a substantial public investment in a new leisure facility for the town. We are also disappointed that they continue to perpetuate the myth that the Lido will be for families only.
"Rather it is for everyone to enjoy and we look forward to welcoming people of all ages from across the District and beyond once it is reopened."
