A RUTHLESS first half performance enabled Kidderminster Harriers to march on in the FA Cup with a 4-2 victory over battling Burton Albion in last night's first round replay at Eton Park.
The win delighted boss Jan Molby and earned his side a home tie against fellow Division Three outfit Carlisle United on Saturday, December 9.
Striker Stewart Hadley led the way for Harriers with two goals while there was also one apiece for Ian Bogie and Tony Bird.
After being 3-0 up at half-time Kidderminster allowed the Brewers to pull back to 3-2 before finally burying the gallant non-leaguers who had earned last night's replay thanks to a well deserved 0-0 draw at Aggborough.
Molby said: "I thought the first half performance was good. We were ruthless. We took our chances and should have had more. I don't think anybody could have complained if we had gone in at half-time five or six nil up.
"We missed a couple of chances but the disappointing part was our display in the second half. You expect players to take their foot off the pedal a little bit but you don't expect, with the players and experience we have got, to completely let go of the game.
"I don't think, though, that it was as close as the scoreline probably suggests. I always thought that when they got back to 3-2 that we had enough left in the tank."
Kidderminster, who were grateful to see a Dale Anderson header bounce off the top of their bar inside the opening 60 seconds, forged ahead in the 22nd minute when Bogie netted his first goal by for the club by floating in a perfectly struck shot from 20 yards.
Five minutes later Hadley netted with a deflected angled shot before he made it 3-0 in the 34th minute, this time with a diving near post header from an Ian Clarkson cross.
Adie Smith also went close a couple of times before Nigel Clough's men re-grouped and emerged for the second half with an admirable never-say-die spirit.
On 71 minutes they reduced the deficit through Mark Blount and then gave Harriers the jitters by making it 3-2 in the 84th minute with a goal from Darren Wassall.
Substitute Bird, however, had the final say with a goal in stoppage time.
