BROMSGROVE RFC could be one of the first clubs in the country to be graced by the World Cup when it pays a flying visit to the Midlands next month.
The William Webb Ellis Trophy is being paraded around the nation following England's epic final triumph over Australia with the Finstall Park club favourites to be one of the hosts.
If chosen, the club will receive the gold trophy on Friday, February 6, although no more details are known.
An executive committee met at the club last Monday to discuss possible plans. A club spokesman said: "The club should be receiving the cup at some stage on February 6, and that's all we know. We are pretty certain it's coming to us.
"It would be excellent for the club and what we would like to do is share the opportunity to see it with people in the town."
The North Midlands is believed to be the first stop on the Sweet Chariot Tour with the cup due to be in the area from Thursday, February 5 to Saturday, February 7.
Heavy security is expected and the cup is likely to be flown to RAF Cosford, in Shropshire, before making its way around Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Its only confirmed stop so far is Birmingham's Bull Ring on the Saturday.
RFU regional press officer Paul Bolton said: "There is nothing definite at this stage in terms of where it is going in North Midlands apart from it has to be in the Bull Ring on the 7th."
