ADRIAN Skeggs thought Worcester's season was coming to an end during the final few seconds of their win at Henley on Sunday.
The Worcester coach, whose side today face Coventry at Sixways, said time stood still for him at the weekend when Henley's Tom Holloway sprin-ted away, heading for a try which would have given his team victory.
The centre looked odds-on to get to the line and score before eventually being hauled back and prevented from touching down.
Amid scenes of Henley players jumping onto the pitch in delight and the home crowd screaming at the top of their voices, Skeggs stood motionless, watching on, powerless to do anything about a score which would have probably killed off Worcester's title chances.
He said: "I just hit rock bottom. It was like death - I was watching our season flash before my eyes. When they didn't score I just felt as bad as I would have if they had.
"We'd gone from toughing it out at Wakefield to that performance which was simply not good enough."
However, after getting away with victory at Henley and four precious points, Worcester went into today's Coventry clash still as National One leaders with an eight-point cushion over Leeds.
The Yorkshire side have two games in hand and would take over top-spot if they win both with bonus points, but Skeggs is just relieved to be in touch as the two teams head towards the April 1 clash between the title rivals.
"That is what it is coming down to but, at the same time, we need to keep on winning before that date.
"Leeds have some tough games coming up and if they come through those with bonus points then, hats off to them.
"It is up to the Worcester players to turn things around, they need to have the mental toughness to fight for each other and be hungry for success."
