21/6/01 THE new Football League season may be two months off but Kidderminster Harriers chiefs can already see pound signs.
Harriers have hopes of a big gate, television exposure and a giant-killing when they entertain Preston North End in the Worthington Cup first round.
The men from Lancashire were only denied promotion to the Premiership in the Division One play-off final last season.
Harriers will play the cup tie, reduced to one leg this season, during the week beginning Monday, August 20.
It will bring back memories of Delwyn Humphreys' winner, set up by a great Jon Purdie run, that gave Harriers a 1-0 victory over North End in the FA Cup Fourth Round in 1994.
Meanwhile, hopes of signing defender Chris Lightfoot could be revived as the 31-year-old has admitted he would welcome a move to Harriers, the only club to make an offer so far.
Contract talks with Neil MacKenzie are on hold as he is on holiday and boss Jan Molby is still speaking to potential signings.
