KEEPER John Danby is focussed on earning a new contract with Kidderminster Harriers after showing impressive form between the posts.

The 20-year-old is playing his way into the club's plans for next season following another good show in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Cambridge.

Both Danby and the man he has displaced, Stuart Brock, are out of contract in the summer.

And, after more supportive words from Harriers director of football Jan Molby, Danby admitted: "It's nice when you're being praised as it gives you confidence.

"Since I've been in the team I haven't had a bad mistake that's turned into a goal yet. It was a complete surprise to me when I was brought in but I've been able to keep my place and have done quite well.

"That was my second clean sheet which I'm quite happy about. My main target is to get a new contract in the summer and keep playing well.

"I wasn't even on the bench at one time under Ian Britton and that was the lowest point for me.

"I did alright on Saturday. I had two important saves to make and a couple of crosses. I thought my kicking was a bit dodgy though to be honest."

Molby enthused: "It's going to be very hard to get someone in over the summer who could over-take John Danby. We might just have stumbled on a very good keeper for the future.

"He's slowly becoming one of the better young keepers in the lower divisions. You ask the back four and they love playing with him because he doesn't confuse them.

"They know he will come and catch or punch when the crosses come in."

On Saturday's match, Molby reflected: "There wasn't a lot wrong with the last half-an-hour. We tried our best, our defensive shape was okay and we've limited them to very few chances.

"But the first hour was disappointing for whatever reason. I don't know whether last weekend took it out of them but we found no energy."
