ALCESTER Rural District Council decided at its meeting on Wednesday to support Studley Parish Council's application for a Crown Post Office.
The matter was raised by the chairman of the council Councillor HE Whitehouse who told the meeting that Studley had previously applied for a better postal facility without success.
Studley, he said, could be regarded as the industrial hub of the rural district and as such warranted better postal facilities.
Studley has two post offices. The main one was a sweet-shop-cum-post-office and was very primitive in that the floor space was inadequate whilst the counter space "no larger than a dolls house" was totally inadequate for the transaction of business such as the sending of telegrams.
He was continually getting complaints from residents in the village.
The council agreed to lend its support to the application.
