JOHN Brain has paid tribute to Worcester Rugby Club prop Alejandro Mor-eno after he was called up to the Italian Six Nations team.

The Sixways head coach has been delighted with the way the 28-year-old has fitted in since his summer arrival, particularly after overcoming a knee operation.

"He had major surgery on his knee in the summer and it takes time for anyone to recover from that especially someone of his size," said Brain.

"He's done very, very well and he's got better as he's got fitter during the season. On Saturday against Henley - he played very well for us. That is very encouraging for us.

"He is now playing like an international. He's very strong and the only question I had was in relation to the scrum was he using that strength to the greatest effect.

"He's more effective in the scrum now than three months ago and his work rate for a prop is now approaching what it should be."

"He's in the Italian squad and it's no surprise to anyone at Worcester."

Moreno, who holds dual Italian and Argentinian nationality, will start for Italy at tight head in their opening game at the Stade de France on Saturday, February 2 (2pm).

Moreno, who joined Worcester in July, has already represented Italy on four occasions and played for them in the 1999 World Cup.

The 18 stone six-foot tall forward has also gained international honours for Argentina, the country of his birth.

Moreno will play for Worcester in today's crucial National One clash at Rotherham before leaving for Italy on Sunday.

He will train with the squad in Italy on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before they move on to Paris on Thursday.

He will therefore miss Worcester's home league match with London Welsh on February 2.
