Red Hill Baptist Church leader Rob Giles and youngest member Hannah Brown, aged 17, dig in as 200 people watch the cutting of the first turf for the new church on land off St Peter's Drive, Worcester, on Sunday. Work on the £1.5m building started yesterday and should take about 44 weeks, with the new church open by December. The moment was marked by a specially-written trumpet fanfare. Minister Martin Hodson said: "This is an exciting time for the church. We look forward to the benefits these purpose-built premises will bring to our work and we believe they will be of real benefit to the local community too." The church, now based in Cannon Street, will become St Peter's Baptist Church.
