WORKERS have voiced their concerns after a man was attacked and robbed in what is arguably one of Worcester's most notorious public footpaths.
The victim was dragged across the ground during Tuesday night's assault, by up to three men in Meco Alley, off Bromyard Road, Worcester.
The attackers jumped on the victim at about 11.30pm, knocking him to the ground.
While on the floor he was dragged and his mobile phone and £25 were stolen.
He was not hurt, but his clothes were torn. The alley is a popular thoroughfare between St John's and Dines Green.
In the past it has been the site of other incidents including a stabbing and vandalism.
Chef June Lewis, who frequently uses the route to and from work at Worcester Ten Pin Bowling, which is next to the site, said that she was not surprised to hear the worrying news.
"It makes me feel a bit jittery knowing that," said the 60-year-old, of Dines Green. "Many years ago, my friend's daughter got stabbed down there.
"My kids don't like me walking through on my own and I wouldn't walk through there at night, or if it was dark."
Mike Haines, who works next to the site at Joy Mining Machinery, said that he would have concerns about using the alley.
"We have had reports of things being chucked on to the railway line below, including blocks of metal," said the 50-year-old, of Farncombe Terrace in Pershore.
"The general state of it is a mess. If I lived here I wouldn't want my wife, or even myself walking up and down it."
Worcester Police have urged anyone who has any information, or recognises the description of the attackers to contact them.
The first attacker is described as white, aged about 20, about 6ft tall, of slim build, with a Worcester accent.
He wore a dark blue baseball cap, Nike Shock trainers, dark trousers and dark upper clothing.
The other attacker, or attackers are believed to have worn similar clothing. Contact police with information on 08457 444888, quoting 2S/ 010206.
