THE Tesco supermarket in Warndon, Worcester, could undergo a comprehensive redevelopment if the city council grants planning permission for the move.
The store, which is based at the Lyppard Centre, has applied for an extra 3,000 square metres of floorspace so it can offer more food storage space, extra checkouts and "enhanced customer facilities".
It has also applied to create a caf between the front of the store and the main car park, along with eight additional shops to sell goods other than food.
The store also proposes an extension to the car park to provide 548 spaces - the current car park has room for 515 cars.
Tesco bosses say consultations about the plans are starting with Warndon Parish Council, shop customers and local residents.
Tesco commercial affairs manager Julian Walker-Palin said: "The proposed redevelopment will substantially enhance the Lyppard centre, which serves the population of the east of Worcester and rural areas beyond.
"The proposals would ensure that the centre continues to meet the needs and aspirations of customers, improve customer comfort, and provide an innovative design which allows the introduction of further unit shops, while the deck car parking allows efficient use of land."
