The annual old people's tea and entertainment in conjunction with the Oat-street Chapel was held in the schoolroom on Tuesday evening. About 62 sat down to an excellent tea which had been provided by the gentlemen members of the congregation, and those presiding at the tables were Mrs. Geoffrey New, Mrs. Phelps, Mrs. Hunting, Miss Watson, and Miss Piper. After tea a concert was given and those contributing songs etc. were the Messrs L. and D. Brearley, Mr. and Miss Phillips and the choir girls. The old people were each presented with a useful garment made by the ladies' class, and some of them took part in a potato race which caused a lot of amusement.

The members of the Evesham Chamber of Trade are to be heartily congratulated on their energetic campaign to advertise the attractions of the town and its immediate neighbourhood as a pleasure resort. In the past, Evesham has been much neglected in this respect, and as a result of this neglect the loss has been two-fold - the traders of the town have been deprived of additional revenue, and many thousands of persons who might otherwise have visited the town have been deprived of a charming holiday, amid surroundings which challenge comparison with the most famous beauty spots in the country. Now that the charms of the Vale of Evesham are being extensively advertised in the Press and by means of guide-books and railway posters, we confidently look forward to a great increase in the number of visitors during the coming summer.

Prospects of the Evesham Almonry being opened as a museum this year are "very bright," it was reported last Thursday to the annual meeting of the Vale of Evesham Historical Society. Mr. Benjamin G. Cox, hon. secretary, reported on negotiations with the Town Council and recalled the exhibition held in the Almonry in April to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the incorporation of Evesham as a borough. "It did much to prove to the public the suitability of the Almonry as a museum," stated Mr. Cox's report, "and of this Society to organise a permanent exhibition." It was decided to increase the annual subscription from 7s. 6d. to 10s. 6d., though that for members still at school would remain at 2s. 6d. There was an increase in membership from 53 to 88.

A milestone was reached on Tuesday in the 18-month campaign to provide a day room at Evesham Hospital in Briar Close. A foundation brick was laid on the site of the extension, on the north wing of the hospital, and it is expected the room will be ready for use by patients by the end of May. The day room was planned to mark the 200th anniversary last year of the building of the hospital. It is costing an estimated £31,000 - money which, because of the general economic situation, is being raised by a team of volunteers. And, in order to keep costs down to a minimum, one-third of the work is being done by a do-it-yourself squad.
