I was fascinated to read the comment (Malvern Gazette, January 27) made by Mr Pumfrey, Malvern Hills District Council's head of environmental services, regarding the need for staff to park illegally in council-run car parks.
Must we assume that people who work in the town but don't enjoy the many benefits of working for MHDC are of less value to the community?
These others bring people into the town centre, bring income into the town centre and bring parking fees into the town centre.
Does the council employ people who are not fit enough to lift heavy objects from their cars to their offices. Surely, like others, they could unload their vehicles and then move them to a legal parking space.
Why are we subsidising all this parking for council employees, when others working in the town are obliged to pay the high charges or park a great distance away and walk, are council employees beyond this?
Parking is a dreadful problem in Malvern. If I fail to find a parking space on the first pass, I simply move on to a shop that has easy parking.
I do, however, also object to people displaying a disabled badge parking on a corner, making passing both difficult and dangerous, or parking on double yellow lines, that are there for a reason.
