LIVES may have been put at risk by thieves who stole flashing blue lights from an ambulance car.
The theft happened on Tuesday at the ambulance headquarters at Bransford.
A VW Golf in the car park was broken into and the portable magnetic blue light and satellite navigation system were stolen. Two blue lights were also wrenched off the radiator grill.
"We're shocked and appalled that someone would steal this equipment," said ambulance trust chief executive Russell Hamilton. "This car is used to respond to people who call us with life-threatening conditions and the blue lights and navigation equipment are vital to ensure its driver reaches patients quickly.
"In taking this equipment they have potentially prevented us responding to emergencies."
The theft happened between 1.30pm and 2.05pm. A grey Volvo 40 was seen nearby, containing two youths, one white, the other Afro-Caribbean, wearing green jackets.
