HEREFORD'S David Park fired a two-under-par 70 in the opening round of the Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates Golf Club yesterday.
The Burghill Valley professional hit three birdies and a bogey in his round and finished the day two shots ahead of Droitwich's John Bickerton.
Bickerton made two birdies during his round, but they were cancelled out by a double bogey six at the par four ninth. Park is tied for 37th place, while Bickerton is slightly further back, tied for 71st.
South African Retief Goosen shrugged off any signs of rust from a six-week break with an eight under par 64 to share the first round lead with Australian Richard Green and England's Jamie Donaldson.
